Reference: Luchsinger, 2007
Cohort: Washington Heights-Inwood Columbia Aging Project
Risk Factor: Obesity

Exposure Detail
Method of exposure ascertainment: technician measurement

"WC was measured at the level of the iliac crest at minimal inspiration to the closest 0.1cm."

Waist circumference was categories into quartiles in the analysis.

Even though the authors repeated the analyses adjusting for different sets of covariates, we have given the results adjusting for age, gender, race, education and ApoE status only, and not analyses adjusting for potential intermediates such as DM.

Screening and Diagnosis Detail
AD Diagnosis:
Cardiovascular examination
DSM IV Diagnostic and Statistical Manual IV
NINCDS ADRDA National Institute of Neurological and Communicative Diseases and Stroke/Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders Association Criteria (McKhann 1984)

Total Dementia Definition: Dementia via DSM-IV clinical criteria and CDR >1

Covariates & Analysis Detail
Analysis Type:
Cox proportional hazards regression

"Proportional hazards models were used in multivariate analyses. The time-to-event variable was time from BMI or WC measurement to incident dementia; individuals who did not develop dementia were censored at last follow-up. For analyses with weight change, the time-to-event variable was time from the second weight measurement to dementia onset. Individuals who developed dementia other than the one of interest were censored at diagnosis."

AD Covariates:
Aage
Eeducation
Ggender
APOE4APOE e4 genotype
RErace/ethnicity

TD Covariates:
