Average Follow-up Time Detail
Average follow-up time was not reported. However, the maximum follow-up time was 8 years.
Exposure Detail
Plasma homocysteine levels were measured using blood samples collected from 1510 participants in 2001. Samples collected from 503 participants (approximately one-third) were fasting blood samples.
"In 2001, blood samples were drawn from participants who consented. The blood samples were drawn in 10-mL EDTA Vacutainer tubes."
"Samples from Indianapolis were directly processed
at Indiana University. Biochemical analyses were
carried out on the plasma."
Levels of homocysteine were measured using commercial kits from BioRad, Hercules, CA, and Diasorin, Stillwater, MN. For the analysis, baseline plasma homocysteine levels were categorized into quartiles.
